Psilocybin truffles are psychoactive substances that can significantly alter perception, cognition, and emotional states. Participation in a psilocybin ceremony is not suitable for everyone.
This document outlines the main contraindications—situations where it may be unsafe or inappropriate to take psilocybin truffles.
The intention is to support your wellbeing and help you make an informed, responsible, self-honouring choice.
If you’re unsure about anything in this document, please consult a medical doctor, your mental health professional, or speak with me directly.
Psilocybin is not recommended for people who currently have, or have a past history of:
Schizophrenia
Schizoaffective disorder
Bipolar disorder type I (especially with manic or psychotic episodes)
Psychotic depression
Delusional disorders
Any previous psychotic episode (including substance-induced)
Borderline personality disorder (depending on stability)
Severe or unstable PTSD
Severe dissociative disorders
Severe anxiety disorders with high risk of panic/destabilisation
Suicidal thoughts or recent suicide attempt
Self-harm behaviour within the past year
Psychiatric hospitalisation within the past year
Active addiction unless in stable recovery and medically supported
Because psilocybin can affect the heart, nervous system, and hormonal balance, the following conditions can make participation unsafe:
Heart disease, arrhythmias
Uncontrolled high blood pressure
Previous stroke or TIA
Epilepsy or history of seizures
Significant brain injuries
Neurodegenerative conditions (case-by-case)
Severe liver or kidney disease
Unstable endocrine disorders
Any condition where emotional or physiological stress is medically unsafe
Some medications can create dangerous interactions with psilocybin or reduce its effectiveness.
If you take any medication, please read this section carefully.
SSRIs (e.g., sertraline, fluoxetine, escitalopram, citalopram)
SNRIs (e.g., venlafaxine, duloxetine)
MAOIs (e.g., moclobemide, phenelzine)
Tricyclic antidepressants
Antipsychotics (e.g., olanzapine, quetiapine, aripiprazole)
Lithium (strictly contraindicated—seizure risk)
Benzodiazepines
Stimulants (Ritalin, Adderall, etc.)
Opioids
Anti-seizure medications
Triptan migraine medications
Any serotonergic medication
Blood pressure medications
Beta blockers
Hormonal treatments affecting mood
Sleep medications
Any drug affecting serotonin, dopamine, or nervous system regulation
Modafinil / armodafinil
Parkinson’s medications (e.g., L-Dopa)
Antihistamines (sedating and non-sedating)
Herbal supplements affecting neurotransmitters (St. John’s Wort, 5-HTP, SAMe, Rhodiola, Kava, Yohimbe)
If you take any regular medication—even if it seems minor—it is essential to check whether it interacts with psilocybin.
Please consult your doctor or ask me for guidance.
Psilocybin truffles are not suitable for:
Pregnancy (any stage)
Breastfeeding
Those actively trying to conceive (recommended abstinence for 1–2 months beforehand)
This is due to the emotional intensity and physiological activation that can occur during a journey.
Even if you are physically healthy, it may not be the right timing if you are currently experiencing:
Acute emotional crisis (bereavement, breakup, major shock)
Extremely high stress levels
Severe sleep deprivation
Intoxication or substance use
Instability in life circumstances that makes deep inner work unsafe
Honouring your timing is essential.
Please abstain from:
Alcohol for at least 48–72 hours
Cannabis for 24–48 hours
Stimulants for 72 hours
Psychedelics for 2 weeks
Active addiction is a contraindication unless you are in stable recovery and supported by a professional.
Not necessarily absolute contraindications, but important to consider:
History of fainting
Blood sugar instability
Severe asthma
Chronic migraines
Chronic pain conditions
Autoimmune disorders
Trauma related to spiritual/psychedelic practices
If unsure, please ask.
Under Dutch and EU privacy laws (including GDPR), we cannot legally require you to share medical or psychological information.
However, your safety is very important, and psilocybin truffles can interact strongly with certain health conditions and medications.
For this reason, you are strongly encouraged to:
Review the contraindications carefully
Consult your doctor or mental health professional if anything applies to you
Voluntarily share any information that might be relevant to your safety
Speak with me beforehand if you have questions or feel unsure
Any information voluntarily shared is treated confidentially and only used to support your wellbeing.
If someone chooses not to disclose a relevant condition or medication, and it becomes clear that participation may be unsafe, I reserve the right to decline or halt their involvement in the ceremony to protect both them and the group.
By registering, you acknowledge that:
You take responsibility for ensuring you have no contraindications
You will seek medical advice if you are unsure about any medication or condition
You will voluntarily disclose anything that may affect your safety
You understand that psilocybin can interact powerfully with certain medications and mental health conditions
This clause respects Dutch law while supporting safe, responsible participation.
